I am typing with one hand, as my cat Diva has been glued to my left arm for the past two days. I guess she missed me.

I spent last week with [info]hanarobi, including Thanksgiving. It was lovely and I could say so much more if I had the use of my other hand. We had Thanksgiving dinner, we decorated her Christmas tree, and I made her watch Season Four of Supernatural.

Thank you, my beta, for a lovely visit. I hope my presence was tolerable.

So I went to the Supernatural convention website. My options are either the Silver package for $439 which includes autographs with the actors, or individual purchases of autographs. There is no option for just attending the "talks" or panels. There is a line about "additional ticket purchase options being posted later". How greedy are these folks who organize the convention? They want to make as many people as possible buy the Silver packages before they allow cheaper options?

No way am I paying $439. Nuh-huh.

WTF?

Hey, I'm sure lots of you have seen this video or one of its other "chapters" on YouTube, but I just have to post it because I love it so. It's the "Simon's Cat" series (apparently, he has a book out now). I find them wonderful because they're funny and true. They obviously come from someone who knows and loves his cat.

This one is "Fly Guy". I think it's my favourite.

So the news I was waiting for has arrived. Jensen will be at L.A. Creation Con. I was thinking I might go, particularly because (assuming I get accepted) I will be at a conference in L.A. just days before the convention.

I'm not going to pay for any autographs or photos, that doesn't really interest me. I just want to be in a room with Jensen.

Grrr
I really don't know why I bother to read Television Without Pity. God DAMN, Demian pisses me off sometimes. I'm not saying my show is perfect by any means, but seriously? What show does he (she?) think he's been watching for the past four years?

jobs
Well, I have made up a nice, tidy chart showing all my prospective jobs and I am gathering my energies to apply to a bunch. It's terrifying! "Assistant Professor"...that couldn't possibly be me!

There's one at Carleton in Ottawa. Oh, God, I want it bad.

So, Supernatural )

In other news, it looks like you can't put italics codes inside an lj-cut code.

So I'm working on this paper that is to be published in the Journal of Transformative Works and Cultures, all about Supernatural. It's my "final" edit and I swear, this is the hardest paper I've ever written. I'm at 45 pages, I'm way over the limit, and I don't feel like everything is there. I feel like, as a person involved in fandom, I have too much inside information. If I make a statement of fact, I can immediately think of three or four reasons why it isn't true!

I'm so glad I did not make fandom studies my primary focus.

But I can't. I have a dissertation to write. It would be a distraction, not to mention a form of procrastination.

WAAAH

One week to Supernatural! In the meantime, I will content myself with my new Season Four DVD set, which should arrive tomorrow. Yummy Yum!

Also, I want a PS3 and a HD TV in the worst way. And a home theatre.

I was telling a friend of mine the other day about going into the Best Buy and just staring longingly at all the beautiful TVs and he said to me, "You're such a guy about that."
I am curious. Are there any other girls out there with a yen for electronics?

I'm sorry to be boring, going on about my health issues, but I feel obligated to provide some kind of update.

Cut just for you, Hanarobi! )

My head will just not stop hurting. I've tried different pills, ice packs and medicated patches. I did yoga today and I think it actually made it worse.

This is not me on the first medication my neurologist/headache specialist prescribed. That one was a bust. Now I'm trying a different medication and so far I am not impressed. He also gave me a prescription for a pain reliever but I can't just keep popping those. They work for about an hour and I'm trying not to overuse them.

When I really let myself think about this I just want to start screaming. Maybe beating my head against the wall would help.

Number of times I have watched the SPN Season Four Gag Reel thus far: 4

I am constantly amazed at how beautiful Jensen's smile is, and the amazing thing about it is it's so totally him. He doesn't let us have access to that in his acting at all.

So guess what? I sent in an article to the Journal of Transformative Works and Cultures, for their special issue on Supernatural, and I just learned yesterday that it has been accepted! I am very pleased, as it is a peer-reviewed journal, so it is an important step in my journey towards being employed in my field and ultimately getting tenure.

The paper is titled "Monstrous Melodrama: Expanding the Scope of Melodramatic Identification to Interpret Negative Fan Responses." It's all about the fan reaction to "The Monster At the End of This Book." Once the essay is published and online, I'll post a link.

Thanks so much, [info]princessofg, for telling me about the call for papers and for not letting me dismiss it. It wouldn't have happened otherwise.
